About Rob

I'm the graphic designer here at inmeres. I studied BA Graphic design with a specialism in advertising at St Martins College in London. After I graduated I worked in a label printers which gave me a huge amount of print experience and most importantly, “what not to send” printers. I then worked for a local magazine designing various adverts ranging from half page to double page spreads and editorials. I then came to inmeres! Woo! Which is a great and i'm continuing to learn a lot. Out of work i'm a bit of a wanna-be photographer. I like to get it right in the camera, i'm not one for massive retouches in Photoshop (though i've been known to break this theory when i get bored and have a bit of a mental Photoshop mash up!) Keep it short and to the point.

The end

Okay so that was a little vague, but it serves a good point. People don’t read on the internet, they scan. We are so used to searching on google, clicking links and finding we end up in the wrong place, that we tend to scan the page first to make sure we’re in the right place. In addition, we also do this in newspapers. Scanning the headlines, maybe the first paragraph and quickly deciding if we want to read further.

multi-column javascript issue

I was trying out Cédric Savarese’s script for multi-column layouts (using the poorly supported CSS3 rules), when i ran into a problem…

It seemed to leave a big gap under the columns. Now i don’t know much about javascript, but i decided to have a look around the file anyway. After a lot of trial and error, i found that removing this line

elem.style.minHeight = newHeight+’px’;

from two places (there are only two), seems to have fixed it! I’m not sure if i’ve broken anything else as a result, however all seems okay for now.

If anything breaks, i’ll remove this post!

Fotobook review

I recently photographed a wedding. As part of the package I supplied a Photo Book. You know the ones… the photo albums that are printed directly on the pages and then bound, to produce an actual book. A great memento of the day and much more liable to survive the years.
